A freelance researcher and author, Cathy O’Neil holds a PhD in math from Harvard. Formerly a professor at Barnard College, she has worked for RiskMetrics, a software company that assesses risk for the holdings of hedge funds and banks. A weekly guest on the Slate Money podcast, she is the author of Doing Data Science (2013) and Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy (2016).
